Hello dear readers,
Long time not reading! A lot of time has passed since we last wrote here and Puffins´ agenda has been full of events and activities.
Around mid-September, Puffins had the safety week. Children started the week by watching a video focused on how to act when there is a fire as well as listening to some sounds related to fire alarm and fire truck. The video was aimed to explain in a more visual way how to act when there is a fire happening. The following day to this video activity, Puffins enjoyed an indoor game that helped them to physically try how to act when there is a fire but also to develop a bit more their motor skills and eye-body coordination. This game was mainly based on crawling under the table, jumping from some point to another and rolling. Finally, this week ended with two important activities: fire drill and visit of fire truck. During the fire drill, children experienced all the process they should follow when a fire happens and after this fire drill, they had the amazing visit of a big fire truck. Great fire fighters came to show all the important parts the fire truck has along with all the tools they have to use in case of an emergency.
After the safety week was finished successfully, Puffins immersed in a sequence of sensory games and activities with which they could experiment with new materials in addition to testing the response of their senses to these materials. Firstly, children had a good time trying the different textures of play-dough and the shapes they could create with some tools. After that, another activity was based on touching different materials and states/shapes such as paint in a Ziploc bag, kinetic sand and different types of paper.
October started and Puffins were very happy to be welcoming a new season. To give a content welcome to Autumn, children became great painters of Contemporary Art era by painting on a paper with autumn colours. The aim of this activity was mainly based on allowing them to explore the different textures of paint along with the learning of holding a paint brush for the first time; which we think was a good activity that helped to improve fine motor skills. Following the idea of progressing on the fine motor skills, Puffins were immersed on playing with a special autumn homemade playdough that smelled like cinnamon, and yes if you are wondering, some Puffins couldn´t resist to this amazing flavour and tried to taste it. Along with these autumn activities, sensory box was changed into autumn elements such as pinecones, tiny branches and many leaves.
As it can be seen, this new season has brought many activities to Puffins and the agenda has been full of events such as the Pyjama’s Day and Parents Coffee Day. For the first event, Puffins and teachers had a cozy day by wearing the warmest pyjamas and watching a short movie about Curious George and autumn season, finishing with a little disco party. Then, for Parents Coffee Day families came to have time with their kids by having breakfast and playing for some time together.
In addition to all these events, Puffins have become great athletes on this indoor gym. The children expended one entire morning playing and exercising through an indoor gym that teachers created for them. They had different sections where they could hop, roll, climb, catch balls of different sizes and go under a tunnel. The aim for this activity wasn´t only to have fun with a different type of activity but also to practice their gross motor skills alongside fine motor skills. For sure we will do it more, since Puffins liked a lot and who knows, maybe we have the next Olympic athletes.
At the end of the month, Puffins had two important celebrations: Diwali and Halloween. For both celebrations children were involved preparing the decorations for the class. On the one hand, for the beautiful celebration of lights -Diwali-, children coloured beautiful Diya lamps which turned very colourful as well as painted a Diwali sign to wish everybody a Happy Diwali day. On the other hand, for the spooky event -Halloween-, Puffins were involved in creating funny spiders by having their hands painted in black alongside with gluing some orange paper to create a delicious paper pumpkin.
After these preparations, Diwali and Halloween parties arrived and Puffins had so much fun. During the Diwali celebration, we were dancing to many Indian songs which Puffins loved it. On the other hand, for Halloween party Puffins wore their cute spooky costumes, we had a little disco party, we did another activity with pumpkins and ended the day with face/hand painting.
To sum up all these weeks full of events and activities, Puffins ended the month by preparing the gifts for Fathers´ Day coffee, but sshhhh this is a surprise, we will only mention here that these gifts were made with a lot of love from Puffins to their fathers.
Puffins´ ship will continue sailing towards new activities regarding animals and Christmas, see you soon dear reader!!
