It was lovely to see everyone again after Christmas break! We spent our first week reconnecting with our friends, exploring new toys and activities in the classroom, and settling back into our daily routines.
We have been enjoying the snowy weather outside. Finches have been having lots of fun sledging and climbing the big rocks in the forest. We have been making the most of the winter weather and we’ve been loving to play together in the snow!
We’ve decorated the classroom with the winter theme and have been enjoying role play, games, and many different activities. The Finches have been exploring new toys and games, creating their own arts and crafts, and learning through play.

For the last couple of weeks, we introduced a new theme – Finnish nature. We have started by learning about Finnish and Arctic animals. We have also done art activities related to these animals their homes and what kind of food they eat. The children’s art work is now displayed in our classroom wall. It is really lovely to see their creativity shining through their artwork. In a few weeks, we will begin learning about animals from the seven continents.
Finches have been exploring light and shadows with the animals and discovered how light can change using different materials.
We received a very special package from our elf friend, Glitter, from Lapland. He told us that he made it back to Lapland in time for Christmas and had a wonderful time with us. He sent us one of his bird friend to spend some time with the Finches. The children /Finches decided together to name the bird PUNNANOKKA. Every Friday, Punanokka will go home with a Finch friend to spend time together and do a special activity. We are very excited about this new adventure.
We have been visiting our local forest for sledding. The Finches have been very happy to play in the snow and enjoy the winter weather together.
One special highlight was our grandparents’ coffee. It was wonderful to spend time with families and share our classroom experience. We also celebrated Runeberg’s day by baking Runeberg’s sweet buns and share it with our grandparents and families. They were delicious.
We also celebrated friendship day, and the Finches exchanged cards with each other. It was lovely to see their kindness and friendship.
