Make Space for Christmas with the Hawks!

November has been a month of preparations for the Hawks. Firstly, and as a follow up to the previous blog, we had our Father’s Day coffee event. They spent the day before making not one, not two, but three gifts for all the dads! They made a card, a reflector and even prepared cookie dough, which they then baked on Friday morning so everyone got to enjoy fresh, warm cookies. When the time came, all the daddies joined us for a snack and afterwards fathers and children worked together to complete a super fun scavenger hunt activity.

In October, the Hawks spent some time planning their next space project: the rocket. Now it was time to put that plan into action. Throughout November they have been building different parts for their rocket, which by the way, was officially named “Roger Space 200”. Since safety always comes first, the Hawks are in the process of building the astronaut helmet that they will then be able to put on while playing in the rocket. They are making it the same way they made the planets, except this time they are making sure there are many layers of paper mache to ensure it is nice and sturdy. Luckily, this is a very familiar technique for them it has been a smooth process. Some other parts are also ready, such as the wings and some decorations for the outside. It has been a busy month filled with patience, concentration and table work, but it is nice to see how excited everyone is to see their idea come to live.

Of course not everything can be cutting, painting and glueing. The Wednesday Ice Skating trips were still happening every week in November. The last few times we got to spend a long time on the ice since they had all got so good and quick at getting ready. The last day was extra special because not only Hawky joined us, we also had Christmas songs in the background the whole time. Which is actually another thing that the Hawks have been working on every morning for almost a month. By now, they know the lyrics to six different Christmas songs.

But without a doubt, December has been the busiest month so far. The Hawks Christmas’s elf, Pluto, has been sneaking around in the classroom every morning and preparing fun activities for them. From baking to crafting, the Hawks have made the most of our Christmas calendar…plus, the classroom is looking very festive! Not just for Christmas, the Hawks also celebrated Finnish Independence day as part of the calendar. And there are still some fun activities, trips and surprises to come before the Christmas holidays begin.

It’s been a wonderful couple of months for the Hawks. They have proven to be very capable and joyful, both as individuals and as a group. We cannot wait to see how next semester goes! But for now, it is time to enjoy the Holiday season and recharge our batteries for the next adventure.
