The preschool year has been off to a wonderful start. Over the past few weeks, the Owls have been settling into their new environment, discovering the preschool setting, and most importantly, making new friends. Each day has been filled with joy, curiosity, and laughter as we begin our journey together.
We started our very first theme with the topic of Family. The Owls shared their ideas about what family means to them and why it is such an important part of their lives. Through stories, conversations, and creative projects, they explored the love and care that families bring. Alongside our everyday language learning, we enjoyed making crafts, practicing math in playful ways, and of course spending plenty of time outdoors. It was heartwarming to see how proud the Owls were when talking about their families and how they came to understand that families can look different but are always special.
After wrapping up our family theme, the Owls moved on to a new adventure: Nature. Their excitement grew as we began talking about trees, insects, flowers, mushrooms, and the many wonders of the natural world. Curiosity came alive when we visited a nearby forest, where the Owls could explore with their own senses—touching the bark of trees, listening to the rustling leaves, and spotting small creatures on the ground. Another highlight of our nature journey was our trip to Villa Elfvik. There, the Owls had the chance to immerse themselves even more deeply in the beauty of the outdoors, listening carefully to the sounds of nature and observing the environment all around them.
Each week, we also integrate gym and music into our learning. These sessions are linked to our topics, giving the Owls the chance to move, sing, and express themselves in creative and joyful ways. In addition, we weave Finnish learning into our themes, helping the children grow their language skills naturally through play, songs, and topic-related activities.
These weeks of preschool have been filled with meaningful discoveries, both inside the classroom and out in the world. Every day brings something new to learn, new friendships to grow, and new memories to treasure. We are so excited for all the adventures still ahead for the Owls in 2025!
