Over the past couple of months, our little Penguins have transformed into big children, each with their own unique personalities and a newfound sense of curiosity. They have been eagerly embracing the world around them, demonstrating growth in everyday tasks, such as dressing themselves, eating, and maintaining personal hygiene. We are proud to share that they are even making progress in toilet training, bidding farewell to their diapers.
The Penguins have been developing strong bonds and showing increased interest in their fellow classmates. While some have already formed friendships, others enjoy observing and playing alongside their peers. Our classroom is filled with joyous laughter and the sounds of happiness as the Penguins cherish the presence of their beloved friends. They thrive on engaging in exciting games, such as constructing towering block structures, maneuvering toy cars on a mat, and roleplaying with baby dolls in the home corner.
December has brought an additional source of delight to our classroom – Cookie Sugar Socks, our mischievous elf friend. Each day, Cookie hides within the classroom and leaves us letters containing fun activities to enjoy with friends. The Penguins have thoroughly enjoyed the thrill of searching for our beloved elf and delightfully partaking in the activities she suggests. We eagerly anticipate the surprises Cookie Sugar Socks has in store for us throughout the rest of the month.
As the outside world transforms into a magical winter wonderland, the Penguins have been relishing in the snowy scenery by engaging in sledding adventures with their Parrot friends and taking leisurely walks around the neighbourhood. Equipped with appropriate winter attire, even the cold weather fails to dampen their enthusiasm for outdoor fun. (For tips on dressing for the colder season, please refer to our blog post on the subject!)
Amidst their playtime, the Penguins are continuously developing their social skills, learning problem-solving techniques, and gaining a deeper understanding of their emotions. They are evolving into effective communicators, expressing their concerns and demonstrating kindness and empathy towards their friends. Sharing toys has become second nature to them, fostering a sense of generosity and cooperation. These skills are instrumental in their personal growth and pave the way for meaningful relationships.
While the daycare setting has proven to be a source of treasured friendships, we believe it is crucial for our Penguins to interact with children their own age outside of daycare as well. Encountering a variety of individuals fosters social tolerance, enhances bravery in navigating new friendships, and makes the daycare experience more exciting and comfortable for both children and parents. To facilitate this, we encourage parents to reach out to one another and arrange playdates, creating opportunities for the little Penguins to nurture their friendships beyond the classroom.
As the Penguins continue to blossom and explore the world around them, we are thrilled to witness their growth in various areas. From mastering everyday tasks to building lasting friendships, our little ones are on an incredible journey of self-discovery. By extending their social experiences through playdates and embracing opportunities for connection, we aim to provide them with a nurturing environment that will shape their future relationships and personal growth.
In our classroom, there is a list of children and their parents contacts who would like to have play-dates with their peers. We kindly encourage the parents to contact each-other and add their contacts also to the play-date list, so the little Penguins could meet their friends during their time off daycare! It would also be a great idea to spend more time outside with the children, to help them get used with the beautiful winter weather, as it will last for many months😊
